About OrienTales

OrienTales is the digital library of SiBA – the University Library System and Historical Archive of the University of Naples “L’Orientale.”
The Digital Library enables the management, long-term preservation of digital objects, and their search and consultation for research and teaching purposes. Digital objects are understood as image files, audio files, video files, as well as descriptive texts and other related content.
OrienTales has the sole purpose of promoting cultural development, public access, and the enhancement of the cultural heritage it preserves, while also ensuring its long-term conservation.

OrienTales Users

Users of the OrienTales digital library may browse the website, perform searches, view documents, use digital objects for personal study, teaching, or research purposes, and download materials according to the resolution and permissions set by the applicable intellectual property rights and licensing terms.
By accessing the OrienTales digital library, users accept and agree to comply with the general terms of use.
Commercial use and use for profit are not permitted, except where otherwise specified for certain objects. Nor is the redistribution of downloaded digital objects to third parties permitted.
Users may request high-resolution digital reproductions by specifying the reasons and intended use. Requests should be sent to the support staff (siba.digitale@unior.it), who will evaluate them.

Intellectual Property of Published Works

Logos, texts, documents, images, graphics, including metadata available on the digital platform are:
  • owned by the University and protected by current copyright legislation with regard to content belonging to the University of Naples “L’Orientale” community;
  • owned by the respective holders, organizations, and institutions of the various communities that have granted the University the right to publish them;
  • data, including metadata and descriptive content provided by public and/or private institutions and organizations collaborating with the University, remain the property of those institutions and/or organizations.

Responsibilities of the University Library System (SiBA)

SiBA undertakes to ensure the proper functioning of the platform, the updating of content, and the accuracy of the information published. SiBA cannot, under any circumstances, be held responsible for improper use by users of descriptive metadata and digital objects associated with the published content.

Licensing Terms

The OrienTales digital library adopts the following licenses:

CC0

Allows, after the expiration of legal protection, the free use of works without requesting authorization or paying any fee.

CC BY

Allows distribution, modification, and creation of derivative works, including for commercial purposes, provided that:
  • appropriate credit is given,
  • a link to the license is provided,
  • any changes made are indicated.

CC BY-SA

Allows distribution, modification, and creation of derivative works, including for commercial purposes, provided that:
  • appropriate credit is given,
  • a link to the license is provided and changes are indicated,

  • This license is, in some respects, comparable to “copyleft” licenses used in free and open-source software.

CC BY-ND

Allows redistribution of the original work, including for commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given and a link to the license is included. It does not allow the distribution of modified, remixed, or derivative works.
